As the only state to play summer softball, the Iowa high school season has officially kicked off with the release of the first set of rankings.
The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union puts out weekly rankings which help determine where teams go when it comes to postseason time.
In the debut set, Waukee Northwest holds the top spot in Class 5A while North Polk (4A), Williamsburg (3A), Van Meter (2A) and Wayne (1A) are the other No. 1 ranked teams.
