One of the top Iowa high school football prospects in the Class of 2026 has narrowed down his college choices and laid out the date he plans to announce his commitment.

West Des Moines Valley dual-sport star Jayden McGregory will decide between Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri and Louisville on July 7, he confirmed via social media recently.

The 6-2, 195-pound safety will be a senior this fall for the Tigers, who were runners-up last year in Class 5A. McGregory also helped Valley win a third consecutive 4A state basketball championship during the winter.

McGregory had a hand in just about all aspects of the Tiger football program last year. He scored on offense, defense and special teams. From his position in the secondary, McGregory recorded 13.5 tackles with three interceptions, one of which he returned for a score.

He also caught 19 passes for 173 yards with a touchdown, ran for 65 yards on only four attempts and had a punt return for a score. That is good for just over 10 yards - or a first down - each time he touched the ball on offense.

McGregory has three official visits with Missouri, Kansas and Louisville on the docket for June, as he recently toured Minnesota.

PJ Fleck and the Gophers have been hard on McGregory since last year. If I had to put a hat on him come commitment day, it would be Minnesota’s. He has made numerous unofficial visits and been a key target for Fleck, who was the first non-Iowa team to offer him back in 2023.

With his ability to provide size and speed in the secondary, McGregory has the chance to make an immediate impact with whichever program he commits to. Add in the special teams play, and the prospect is sure to see the field as a true freshman.
