The Mustangs of Eagle High School ID emerged out of a competitive bracket last weekend to take home a 2025 Section 7 Cache AI bracket title.
They won 75-55 over Campo Verde (AZ), 64-34 against talented Southern California heavyweight Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks), 59-52 against Higley (AZ), and 48-41 over Westlake (UT) to take home first place. Other top teams in the bracket were Arizona's Salpointe Catholic and Pinnacle, California's Louisville and Mark Keppel, and reigning New Mexico champion Sandia.

Eagle already looked to be poised for a big 2025-26 campaign, and its performance at Section 7 should add fuel to the fire. The Mustangs went 19-7 last season and finished ranked ninth in Idaho by MaxPreps with primarily underclassmen in the rotation. They bring back leading scorer and rebounder Berkley Jones (16.3 points, 7.1 rebounds) and second-leading scorer Taya Nelson (10.4 points, 1.8 steals) as juniors in addition to their leader in assists, rising senior Bella Thompson.
Those three comprise one of Idaho's stronger guard units, and a host of other Mustangs who got limited but consistent varsity minutes will have the opportunity to emerge as key players. Size might be an issue, but Eagle looks like a safe bet to remain one of the state's better teams and a strong candidate to build on the leap it took during the 2024-25 season.
