Clemson OT Brayden Jacobs was one of the cornerstones that helped build Milton's current 25-game win streak headed into tonight's opener at Buford.

With an early 14-0 lead over their neighbors from Kennesaw 20 miles to the west, the Milton Eagles appeared to have the game in hand.

The Eagles had already whipped three Georgia opponents early in the 2023 season when they jumped all over the North Cobb Warriors beneath the Friday night lights on September 22 two years ago. Their only loss to that point was a 14-10 setback at the hands of a gritty Western Wildcats squad from Davie, Florida, in the second game of the season. Sitting at 3-1 and leading by two touchdowns in the first quarter against an opponent that appeared to be in over its head, the sky appeared to be the limit for these Eagles.

Until they landed with a thud.

HOW TO WATCH MILTON AT BUFORD ON ESPN2 TONIGHT

By halftime, Milton was clinging to a three-point lead, and by the end of the game, they were on the short end of a 42-27 score against a team they were supposed to beat by 20 points. A defense that had yielded a combined 53 points in the first four games had just given up six touchdowns in a single game.

But a date the following week with South Forsyth (Cumming), who would eventually finish 1-9, proved to be the medicine the ailing Eagles needed. Milton whipped the visiting War Eagles, 31-0, and followed it with another 31-0 rout of the Forsyth Central (Cumming) Bulldogs. Twenty-five games after crumbling against North Cobb on that September evening two years ago, they haven't lost since.

The Eagles will carry a 25-game win streak into tonight's game at Buford, The Sporting News High School Football Game of the Week. The contest will be the first game played at the Wolves' sparkling new $62 million facility. Milton will enter the game as a two-time defending state champion, winning the Class 7A state title at the conclusion of that 2023 season on a 10-game win streak. After being reclassified to Class 5A prior to last season, the Eagles added 15 more games to their run, adding a 5A crown last December.

Their 13-10 win over Buford at home in last season's opener is one of only two in that 25-game span that finished within a single score. They also escaped the Colquitt County (Norman Park) Packers, 39-37, in the Class 7A quarterfinals during their 2023 playoff run. That was one week before delivering the most surprising win in the whole streak when they knocked off the Grayson (Loganville) Rams, 45-35, in the semifinals.

Milton's 25-game run is the nation's 22nd longest win streak entering the 2025 season, according to High School Football America. It's the first double-digit win streak on the line this fall anywhere in the country.
