Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta is not practicing on Thursday because of an injury, head coach Dan Campbell confirmed.

Campbell revealed the news before the second joint practice with the Miami Dolphins. As of this writing it isn't clear what LaPorta is dealing with.

Thankfully, LaPorta's injury doesn't appear to be serious and he's only expected to miss a few days.

"It's not major, but he will miss a little bit of time here," Campbell said.

Following a historic rookie campaign, LaPorta saw a bit of a dip in his production in 2024, as he went from 889 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023 to 726 yards and seven touchdowns in 2024.

Some of that can be attributed to the ascension of wide receiver Jameson Williams, who had a breakout season and established himself as Jared Goff's No. 2 target behind Amon-Ra St. Brown.

Lions injury updates

In other injury news, the Lions saw the practice returns of cornerback Terrion Arnold, defensive lineman Pat O'Connor and wide receivers Tom Kennedy and Dominic Lovett on Thursday, according to Nolan Bianchi of The Detroit News.

Meanwhile, safety Kerby Joseph is out of practice for a second-straight day with an undisclosed injury, and offensive lineman Giovanni Manu and wide receivers Tim Patrick and Malik Taylor were also not taking part.
