Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders has had one of the more confusing OTA performances of the 2025 NFL offseason with the Cleveland Browns.

Some believe he’s destined to start for the Browns at some point this fall. While few are projecting him to start in Week 1, there is a belief that the “Grown QB” can be starting under center by the end of the season.

Meanwhile, USA Today’s Chris Bumbaca isn’t fully convinced Sanders will be in Berea next month.

Bumbaca spoke of Sanders not being a Brown by training camp in July as a legitimate possibility.

“By the time training camp arrives in July, Sanders said, he plans on being there. Whether Stefanski and the Browns coaching staff agree or not will determine the direction of Sanders’ rookie season,” Bumbaca wrote.

In April, right after Cleveland took Sanders in the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft, Pro Football Talk’s Michael Davis deemed Shedeur “no sure thing” to make the roster.

“Sanders landed in a place where he’s no sure thing to even make the roster, given that he’ll likely open training camp fourth on the depth behind Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett and Dillon Gabriel. (Deshaun Watson is also on the roster but currently rehabbing an Achilles injury.) But he says he’s willing to do whatever it takes to earn a roster spot,” Davis wrote.

No NFL team is going to keep five quarterbacks under contract. Sanders is the lowest-pedigreed player on the depth chart due to his draft slide.

The writing may be on the wall for Sanders to be cut if a trade cannot be found.
