Back at the Iowa high school state track and field meet, Quentin Nauman put on a show. The Western Dubuque junior won four events, including three individual races.
Nauman continued his successful run with titles on a national level, and now, he has been honored as the Gatorade Iowa Boys Track and Field Player of the Year.
The University of Oregon commit won the Class 3A 800, 1,600 and 3,200 at Drake Stadium in Des Moines. He also placed first in the mile at the HOKA Festival of Miles, breaking four minutes with a time of 3:58.65.
Recently, Nauman won the mile on his future home track in Eugene, Oregon at the Nike Outdoor Nationals/USA Track and Field U20 event.
He set state records in the 800 and 1,600, becoming the first prep runner in U.S. history to break 1:50 in the 800 and four minutes in the 1,600 on the same day. His 1,600 time ranked No. 1 in the nation.
"Quentin is the greatest track athlete in Iowa history," said Jason Lansing, the head coach at Central DeWitt. "He is not a contender for that title; he is the best in the state by a long shot, and it wouldn't surprise me to see him running in the Olympics in a few years."
Nauman also won multiple state track titles as a sophomore and owns victories at the Drake Relays.
