Joe Steinkamp will look to change the lives of basketball players at the high school level after a stint leading the NCAA Division III Central College program.
Steinkamp was officially named the new head boys basketball coach at Pella Christian High School in Iowa. Since 2022, he has been the head men's basketball coach at Central, winning American Rivers Conference coach of the year honors in 2023.
The last two decades have been spent coaching in college basketball for Steinkamp, including the past 18 with Central. He was an assistant for 10 years before leading the women's program from 2017-22.
A graduate of Central College, Steinkamp was a co-captain of the Dutch during his playing days. A 2003 graduate, Steinkamp led the team to the NCAA Tournament this past year, going 57-28 the last three seasons including a league title last year.
Pella Christian went 10-14 a season ago and is set to return starters Gilbert Flagel, Garrett Wieland, Ben Van Wyngarden and Devan Runner.
Steinkamp's former assistant, Conor Riordan, has been named the interim head coach at Central, according to KNIA-KRLS. Riordan played at Simpson College where he was a three-time all-conference pick after graduating from Ankeny High School.
