Oh, to be a Millennium (Goodyear, AZ) high school girls basketball fan.
The Tigers went 24-6 for an Open Division state title last season and might be the AIA's top team again in 2024-25. They graduated Gatorade Player of the Year and 4-star NC State signee Destiny "Ky'She" Lunan but are expected to return their next five leading scorers and added high-scoring guard T’Maea Eteuati from Davis (UT).
However, the most recent news on Millennium girls basketball comes from their JV team (listed as Millennium 2), which mostly dominated the competition at Section 7 to win a title in the Dorsey & Whitney LLP bracket. The Tigers won 46-14 against Catalina Foothills 2, 61-15 against Basha 2, and 55-18 against Seton Catholic before outlasting Perry 2 62-54 in the finals. The bracket consisted of five more varsity teams and seven other "2" teams that are all presumed to be JV teams as well. Three of the four semifinalists were B-teams.
The Tigers' varsity team played in arguably the toughest bracket but still more than held its own. Millennium 1 lost a tough first round draw against Southern California powerhouse Oak Park before narrowly knocking off three more elite California programs – Sage Hill, Carondelet, and Fairmont Prep – to win the AIA consolation bracket.
