DeWanna Bonner was waived from the Indiana Fever this week, putting to end days of speculation about her absence from the court. Bonner last played for the Fever in the team's June 10 game against the Atlanta Dream.

As reported by Sports Illustrated, retired WNBA great Rebecca Lobo, who currently works as an analyst throughout the NCAA and WNBA seasons, commented on the fiasco during a segment on ESPN. Lobo explained that there's one aspect of Bonner's departure that is surprising.

"I was more surprised at the fact she was waived, and that there wasn't a trade involved. That Indiana didn't get something in return," she explained. "Of course, DeWanna's salary was a big part of that. And then you look at the Indiana Fever, and what's interesting about the move is they built their roster to be able to absorb this. They have a lot of frontcourt players."

But as Lobo also added, the Fever will be able to deal with the loss, and could even thrive as a result. "This also opens up salary that at some point, they can add a 12th player, as well. So, as far as how it impacts the Indiana Fever on the floor, I think they will be fine with it. A little bit of a surprise of how it all went down, and with her playing so few games," she added.

Bonner has yet to find a new team in the WNBA, but expressed an interest in playing for the Mercury or the Dream.
