The Sporting News is taking a look at the top returning high school players in Texas by region and position as the 2025 season gets ready to kick off soon.
These are the top 20 returning quarterbacks in the San Antonio metro area. The list includes a state champion, a regional finalist and a regional semifinalist.

Dylan Cash Llamas, San Antonio Lanier, Sr.
Llamas led one of the top-scoring offenses in program history last season (33 points per game) by throwing for 1,076 yards and 10 touchdowns and rushing for 189 yards and two more scores. The Voks finished 5-6 and earned a playoff berth. Llamas is one of eight starters returning for Lanier on offense this season.
Corey Dailey, Seguin, Sr. (Pittsburgh commit)

One of the most experienced signal-callers in the San Antonio area, Dailey is gearing up for his fourth season as the starter for the Matadors. The No. 90 player in Texas in the Class of 2026, according to 24/7 Sports, he threw for 2,529 yards and 35 touchdowns and rushed for 219 yards and six more scores to lead Seguin to a 5-6 record. Dailey also earned District 13-5A Division I Offensive Most Valuable Player honors.
Elvis Estrada, San Antonio Johnson, Jr.
Estrada burst onto the scene in a big way as a sophomore last season by leading the Jaguars to a 10-2 record, a district title and a resounding 49-7 playoff win over San Antonio Taft. He threw for 2,146 yards and 22 touchdowns, and rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns. Estrada is one of 15 returning starters for the Jags, including six on offense. Johnson could be in for a big 2025 with Elvis back in the building.
Isaiah Farris, San Antonio Stevens, Sr.
The Falcons won just two games in 2024, but Farris showed some signs of bigger and better things to come. He threw for 421 yards and five touchdowns and rushed for 579 yards and eight touchdowns while playing in nine games his junior season. Farris earned a Second-Team Utility nod on the All-District 28-6A Team.
Kaleb Flores, Somerset, Sr.
After finishing 6-5 in 2023, Flores led the Bulldogs to a big 9-3 season in 2024. He threw for 1,789 yards and 21 touchdowns, while rushing for 330 yards and five more trips to the end zone. Somerset notched a 35-28 bi-district win over Taylor. Head coach Koy Detmer and the Bulldogs return 11 starters, including six on offense, this season.
Mi'Vieon Franklin Ross, San Antonio Sam Houston, Jr.
As a speedy sophomore starting for the Hurricanes at QB1, Ross threw for 1,740 yards and 17 touchdowns and rushed for 591 yards and a team-high five touchdowns in 2024. Sam Houston finished 5-6 (4-2) and earned a playoff berth. Ross landed a Second-Team spot on the All-District 12-5A Division II team.
Cayden Glass, San Antonio Brennan, Sr.
Glass led a prolific Brennan offense that averaged 41 points per game by throwing for 1,385 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushing for 693 yards and six touchdowns. The Bears won a district title and finished 10-2, including a 28-7 bi-district win over San Antonio Reagan. Glass was a Second-Team selection on the All-District 28-6A team.
Braylon Johnson, Falls City, Sr.
One of the most exciting dual-threat quarterbacks in Class 2A, Johnson threw for 523 yards and eight touchdowns and rushed for a whopping 1,523 yards and 24 touchdowns. The Beavers finished 8-4 and notched a 42-6 playoff win over Agua Dulce. Johnson earned honorable mention on the Texas Sports Writers Association’s Class 2A All-State Team.
Ty Knutson, Smithson Valley, Jr.
Knutson gained valuable playing experience as a sophomore in 2024 by substituting for senior starter Cade Spradling every third series. Now, QB2 becomes QB1. Knutson threw for 1,070 yards and seven touchdowns last season to help lead the Rangers to a 14-2 ledger and a Class 5A Division I state title, the first in program history.
Major Luna, Poth, Sr.
Luna spent the better part of the 2024 season lighting up the scoreboard, throwing for 2,680 yards and 34 touchdowns and rushing for 71 yards and three more touchdowns to lead the Pirates to a 12-1 record, a district title and a regional semifinalist berth. Luna was named the unanimous District 15-3A Division II Offensive Most Valuable Player.
Chauncey Moon, San Antonio Sotomayor, Jr.
Another standout dual-threat sophomore last season, Moon threw for 696 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 869 yards and nine additional touchdowns. The Wildcats finished 7-5 and beat San Antonio Churchill, 23-19, in bi-district before meeting up with eventual state champion Austin Vandergrift in area.
Julian Navarette, Boerne Champion, Jr.
In his first season starting for the Chargers, Navarette accounted for nearly 3,000 yards and 30 touchdowns as a sophomore. He threw for 2,670 yards and 28 touchdowns and rushed for 207 yards and one more score to lead Champion to a 5-5 campaign. Navarette was the unanimous District 13-5A Division I Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
Kade Pape, Marion, Sr.
The Bulldogs will rely heavily on Pape’s experience calling signals as he enters his senior season. Last year, he threw for 1,856 yards and 18 touchdowns to go along with 378 rushing yards and another six touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs to a 5-7 record, including a resounding 46-14 upset playoff win over Jourdanton. Pape earned Second-Team All-District 13-3A Division I honors.
Rogan Parson, San Antonio Antonian Prep, Jr.
Parson wasted no time making himself at home starting as a sophomore last season. He threw for 2,172 yards and 31 touchdowns and rushed for 482 yards and another eight scores to lead the Apaches to an 8-3 season that included a district title. Parson earned honorable mention on the TAPPS Division I All-State Team.
Isaiah Santillan, San Antonio Clark, Sr.
Santillan should benefit from his experience as a junior starter for the Cougars last season. He threw for 1,411 yards and 11 touchdowns and rushed for 103 yards and five touchdowns to lead Clark to back-to-back playoff trips. The Cougars finished 6-5. Santillan is one of eight returning starters on offense for Clark in 2025.
Wynter Smith, San Antonio Brandies, Jr.
Smith proved to be most effective as a runner while starting at quarterback for the Broncos last season as a sophomore. He rushed for 1,121 yards and nine touchdowns and threw for 670 yards and four touchdowns. Brandies finished 6-4. Smith was named the District 27-6A Co-Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
Logan Spalding, Ingram Moore, Jr.
Another sophomore starter last year, Spalding threw for 1,234 yards and 14 touchdowns. The Warriors finished with just three wins, but they all came in District 13-3A Division I play so they made the playoffs. Spalding is one of seven returning starters on offense for Moore, which opens the regular season at Crystal City on Aug. 29.
Aldric Trotter, San Antonio Harlan, Sr.
Trotter was one of the biggest reasons the Hawks made the deepest playoff run in program history in 2024. As a junior, he threw for 2,500 yards and 25 touchdowns and rushed for 930 yards and 14 more touchdowns. Harlan finished 12-2 with playoff wins over Dripping Springs and New Braunfels Canyon. Trotter earned First-Team All-District 28-6A honors.
Tucker Vogel, San Antonio Taft, Sr.
Vogel had a big junior season, leading the Raiders in passing and rushing. He threw for 1,277 yards and 13 touchdowns and rushed for 1,011 yards and 12 touchdowns. Taft finished 6-5 and earned a playoff spot. Vogel, who averaged 7.4 yards per carry, was named the District 28-6A Offensive Newcomer of the Year.
Tajari Wellington, San Antonio Jay, Sr.
Wellington was a steady presence for the Jay offense, which averaged 32.5 points per game last season. He thew for 1,050 yards and 12 touchdowns and rushed for 68 yards and three more scores. The Mustangs finished 9-2 and earned a playoff spot. Wellington garnered a First-Team All-District 14-5A Division I nod.
