The Georgia high school football season kicked off Thursday night with The Sporting News High School Football Game of the Week between the No. 14 Milton Eagles at the No. 12 Buford Wolves on center stage.
But there are plenty of other big games in Georgia this weekend, starting with the lineup at the 34th annual Corky Kell + Dave Hunter Classic. The St. Pius X Catholic (Atlanta) Golden Lions and Dunwoody Wildcats get the party started at 10 a.m. today from Atlanta's Mercedes-Benz Stadium.
Then the Brookwood (Snellville) Broncos and the Houston County (Warner Robins) Bears take the field in the second game of the Saturday lineup played at the home of the NFL's Atlanta Falcons.
The Broncos were the 7-4 GHSA Class 6A Region 7 runner-ups in 2024, losing to the West Forsyth (Cumming) Wolverines in the first round of the playoffs. The Bears, meanwhile, finished 8-5 after making a deep run to the GHSA Class 5A quarterfinals where they lost to the eventual undefeated state champion Milton Eagles, 56-14.

Both teams have high hopes as the 2025 season gets under way, and they each have an impact player in their defensive secondaries.
In Houston County's case, it's the state's No. 7 overall prospect in the Class of 2026 with four-star Jordan Smith patrolling the defensive backfield. The senior has already committed to play college football for the state's flagship Georgia Bulldogs.
Brookwood counters with lockdown corner Kris Brunson, a three-star recruit who's hitched a future full ride with the ACC's Louisville Cardinals.
