So much hope and excitement for the New York Jets had built up over this offseason, and it all vanished on the second day of training camp. Quarterback Justin Fields came up limping after a passing play early on Thursday morning and had to be carted back into the facilities. We now have a diagnosis which, according to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, is a right toe injury. Head coach Aaron Glenn chimed in to say that he believes someone stepped on Fields’ foot, causing the injury.

This is huge news for Jets fans, who can now heave a collective sigh of relief. From early reports of the injury it seemed like a non-contact injury, which generally leads to a catastrophic, season-ending injury like an Achilles tear or an ACL injury.
There's still a lot we don't know, whether this is a broken toe or just a case of short-term pain. A broken toe would still be serious and Fields would likely be out for several weeks. But at least we are not looking at a worst-case scenario. Fields should be back this year, it’s just a question of when.
