The New York Jets pushed a lot of their chips into the pile when they signed quarterback Justin Fields to a two-year ‘prove it’ deal in free agency. That gamble may have already blown up in their faces and it’s only Day 2 of training camp. According to multiple reports from NFL and Jets insiders, Justin Fields has left Thursday’s practice with an apparent leg injury. What’s especially concerning is that this was a non-contact injury while avoiding pressure and he was carted off the field.

If this injury to Fields is as bad as it seems right now, the Jets are in serious trouble for 2025. Tyrod Taylor is likely to win the backup quarterback spot in camp, but he’s not the kind of quarterback that can lead a team to the playoffs over an entire season. An already weak position group would have lost its only real potential strength.
Hopefully we’ll receive some updates from the Jets soon. It could be just a tweak for Fields and they’re being extra cautious, but it does not look good.
