Football is a physical sport, and injuries are all but inevitable, especially at the professional level. Unfortunately for the New York Jets, they seem to have been bitten by the injury bug at training camp this past week. First, Justin Fields narrowly avoided a catastrophic injury on the second day of camp. Then, three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Quinnen Williams left practice with a strained left calf that’s expected to keep him sidelined for 1-2 weeks.
Now there’s four other players for Jets fans to keep an eye out for at practice. Head coach Aaron Glenn met with the media following Tuesday’s practice (which was another concerning day for quarterback Justin Fields) and gave everyone some injury updates. Rookie tight end Mason Taylor has already been evaluated and was diagnosed with a high ankle sprain; he’ll be out at least a week.
Mason Taylor has a high ankle sprain, out at least a week, per Glenn. Tyrod Taylor being evaluated for knee injury; not a long term injury, Glenn says. McDonald (back spasms) and Cowart (ankle) also dealing with injuries. #Jets

That’s a serious blow to a receiving corps that’s already ranked near the league’s bottom. Taylor was expected to play a bigger role than most rookie tight ends do, and he had been forming a critical connection with Fields over the past week. Now that chemistry is going to suffer with Taylor’s absence.
Glenn also gave updates on a few other Jets, though not in as much detail. Tyrod Taylor is still being evaluated for a knee injury, though it’s not expected to be major. Aaron McDonald IV is out with back spasms and Byron Cowart is having ankle trouble. Cowart is coming off a 2.5 sack season with the Chicago Bears and is expected to be a reliable depth piece for New York’s defensive line.
Last of all, Jermaine Johnson II is still not practicing though he has shared on social media that his return is close and is expected to be ready to go for the start of the regular season.
None of these injuries appear to be major, luckily for the Jets. Barring any setbacks, everyone should be ready to go for New York’s Week 1 game against the Pittsburgh Steelers. With Aaron Rodgers on the other side of this matchup, the Jets going to need 100% effort from each and every player.
