The New Orleans Saints kicked off their 2025 training camp under hot and humid skies, and fans showed up in force to welcome their team back to the field. Families lined the fences, kids waved signs, and the energy around the first practice of camp felt fresh despite the heat.
For a team ravaged by injuries last season, the best news of all no one went down on day one.
That’s a win in itself.
In fact, the humidity forced head coach Kellen Moore to cut the practice short by about 20 minutes. Afterward, Saints players made their way to the sidelines to greet fans and sign autographs, a move that only added to the good vibes surrounding the start of camp.
One of the most intriguing storylines to watch this summer? The quarterback battle, and right now, Spencer Rattler looks like he’s taking the lead.
Ross Jackson of the Locked on Saints podcast even said Rattler had a strong day.
During drills, Rattler’s passes had noticeably more zip and consistency compared to Tyler Shough and Jake Haener, both of whom threw a few wobblers. Rattler ran the cleanest sets, hit his marks, and looked like the most poised signal-caller on the field.
If the first day is any indication, the rookie from South Carolina is not just competing, he’s commanding.
Spencer Rattler talks South Carolina Gamecocks, LaNorris Sellers
I got a chance to ask Rattler a question that’s been on the minds of many South Carolina fans.
“Who do you think is better, you or LaNorris Sellers?”
Rattler cracked a wide grin before answering with confidence:
“I’m the better thrower, but he’s the better runner,” he said proudly.
“He’s like my little brother. They’re going to go deep this year.”
That bond goes back to their time together at South Carolina in 2023. And from the way Rattler talked about Sellers, it’s clear their relationship is more brotherly than competitive.
But here in New Orleans, the focus is all on Rattler, and if day one is any preview, the Saints might have something cooking with their young quarterback.
