CBS Sports confirms New Orleans Saints’ decision on rookie QB Tyler Shough image

The New Orleans Saints’ quarterback competition has been the talk of OTAs between second-round rookie quarterback Tyler Shough and second-year man Spencer Rattler.

Many are just slotting Shough as the starter simply over the fact that the team drafted him with their No. 40 pick.

Josh Edwards of CBS Sports also predicted that Shough would be the starter.

“New Orleans has Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener and Shough competing for the starting spot in the wake of Derek Carr's retirement. Shough is the most talented of the trio and the team has invested a second-round pick in the player, but the franchise wants to avoid a tennis match where it is going back and forth among its quarterbacks. There needs to be little doubt Shough is going to be the quarterback of the foreseeable future, which means being patient through the ups and downs. If Rattler starts the first few weeks before head coach Kellen Moore arrives at the decision to start Shough, then that is probably the latest the rookie out of Louisville takes the field with the starters,” Edwards wrote.

This might not be the case entirely for the talented rookie.

Yes, the team drafted Shough with their second-round pick, but we have seen our fair share of bad draft picks from first-round players to seventh-round players.

It also goes to say that his competition, Rattler, has already been touted as the quarterback Saints fans should be excited about.

If the Saints go with Shough this year, it had better be a good-looking way to lose all year and not look like when the Miami Dolphins tanked for Tua Tagovailoa in 2019 – an embarrassing look for the Dolphins – and no team should stoop to that.
