Colts predicted to cut ties with Anthony Richardson for SEC QB superstar replacement image

The Anthony Richardson era in Indianapolis is dangerously close to over.

By the end of the 2025 NFL season, it might be done.

The Colts could be looking at a reset at the quarterback position after Richardson turned out to be a bust.

Enter the 2026 NFL Draft, which is loaded with QBs. ESPN's Matt Miller has the Colts choosing one in his newest mock draft: LSU's Garrett Nussmeier.

"Anthony Richardson's injuries and lack of development led to the Colts signing Daniel Jones this offseason. Barring major improvement from Richardson (or a breakthrough by Jones), Indianapolis will be in search of a quarterback," Miller writes. "Nussmeier showed flashes in his first season as a starter, throwing for 4,052 yards, 29 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. The son of Saints offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier, Garrett plays with fire and energy and isn't afraid to take chances. If he cuts down his interceptions, Nussmeier has the velocity, accuracy and playmaking ability to move up draft boards."

In Miller's mock, he has Clemson's Cade Klubnik already off the board but then has the Colts choose Nussmeier over South Carolina's LaNorris Sellers and Penn State's Drew Allar.

There's a lot of football to be played between now and then, so these guys could do some flip-flopping in the rankings. Texas QB Arch Manning could always declare for the draft, too, but Miller doesn't have him in the class at the moment.

The Colts would certainly like to get quarterback right one of these days. They've still never fully recovered from the Andrew Luck shock retirement.
