The Houston Texans are trading wide receiver John Metchie to the Philadelphia Eagles, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports. Metchie had been buried on the Texans' depth chart. Last season, he was behind Stefon Diggs and Tank Dell. Now, Houston added Jayden Higgins and Jaylin Noel in the draft, which didn't bode well for the Alabama product's potential targets.
Metchie was expected to be a potential franchise centerpiece for the Texans at one point, but he had to step away from football in 2022 to battle blood cancer. He returned in 2023 and has 40 catches over the last two seasons.
Metchie now joins the Eagles' receiving corps, which is thin behind A.J. Brown and Devonta Smith.
