The Atlanta Falcons, Detroit Lions, and Las Vegas Raiders could look to target a veteran tight end before the 2025 NFL season.
Pro Football Network's Jacob Infante lists the Falcons, Lions, and Raiders as potential landing spots for free agent tight end Gerald Everett, who spent the 2024 campaign with the Chicago Bears.
"Everett overlapped with Falcons OC Zac Robinson with the Rams and played for Raiders coach Pete Carroll during his one season in Seattle. Both could make sense as landing spots, as could the Detroit Lions as a backup to Sam LaPorta," Infante wrote.
Everett had an underwhelming season in Chicago last year, tallying just eight receptions for 36 yards in 17 games. He was released by the Bears in February.
Though he struggled to find a role in Chicago's offense last season, Everett could be in for a bounce-back year with a change of scenery. The 31-year-old posted two straight seasons with over 50 receptions in 2022 and 2023 with the Los Angeles Chargers, including a career-high 58 receptions and 555 yards in 2022.
The South Alabama product could still serve as solid depth in any team's tight end room. The Lions and Raiders don't need to add another tight end to their rosters, as Brock Bowers and Michael Mayer are a dynamic duo in Las Vegas, while Sam LaPorta and Brock Wright are perfect fits in Detroit's offense.
However, the Falcons are a logical fit for Everett, as he would provide adequate depth and competition behind Kyle Pitts.
Everett should also be incredibly cheap to sign, and would be a savvy training camp addition for a team in need of tight end depth.
