The Denver Broncos are heading toward the start of the 2025 NFL season with one of the best defenses in the league, at least on paper. But has the team done enough for the offense?
That's a legitimate question. Following a loss to the Buffalo Bills in the Wild Card round of the playoffs, it seemed as though the Broncos should have an offensive-minded attack heading into the offseason. While signing Evan Engram in free agency and drafting RJ Harvey in the second round were big moves in the direction of giving Bo Nix more offensive firepower going into 2025.
But the team still lacks proven options beyond Courtland Sutton at the wide receiver position, which is why the Broncos are continually tied to projections that have them bringing in another veteran option at the position. If a trusted option doesn't emerge in a clear way before the season ends, the team could be looking at adding a top prospect early in next year's draft.
That is how Max Dorsey of PFSN sees things going. In his latest 2026 mock draft, Dorsey has the Broncos selecting Clemson wide receiver Antonio Williams with the No. 20 overall pick. But Dorsey doesn't see Williams as an addition to a group that includes Sutton, but rather as the guy the team replaces him with.
"The Denver Broncos are in a promising position entering 2025 with Bo Nix leading the offense, but with Courtland Sutton’s contract set to expire, they’ll need to find a true No. 1 receiver. Antonio Williams could be precisely that.
Williams is coming off a great season with Clemson, where he had 904 yards and 11 touchdowns. At only 5’11”, he’s not your typical X, but his ability to separate is truly special.
Despite his size, Williams consistently makes contested catches and exhibits excellent body control. He will be effective both out wide and in the slot at the next level".
Sutton is in the final year of his contract and will be looking to prove that he deserves a big extension with the team. The Broncos would be best served to work out a deal with him to stay as the team's top option at wide receiver or perhaps move to the No. 2 spot if the Broncos find a suitable replacement, which could be Williams.
Williams will be entering his fourth season with the Tigers and is coming off a huge season in which he caught 75 passes for 904 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Dorsey thinks highly of Williams as he has him as the first wide receiver off the board. NFL Draft Buzz currently has Williams as their No. 8-ranked wide receiver in next year's class. The Broncos have not selected a wide receiver in the first round since taking Jerry Jeudy in 2020.
The Broncos have several young players, including Troy Franklin, Devaughn Vele and Pat Bryant, who will all get their looks this season. Unless they are largely ineffective, it doesn't seem like wide receiver would be a position that Sean Payton would put as his top priority next spring, but if Sutton were to leave in free agency, that would change.
