Despite using their second-round pick on a running back this year, selecting RJ Harvey out of UCF, the Denver Broncos have needed more depth at the position. They appear ready to make a move to get some.

The Broncos are bringing in former Baltimore Ravens and Los Angeles Chargers running back J.K. Dobbins for a visit. The team is expected to have dinner with him on Wednesday night and have the visit continue into Thursday. The Broncos have been connected to Dobbins quite a bit this offseason.

Talent has never been the question with Dobbins, who was chosen in the second round of the 2020 NFL Draft. However, durability has.

Dobbins rushed for 1,347 yards and 12 touchdowns in parts of three seasons with the Ravens, but injuries greatly hurt his tenure there. The Chargers signed him as a free agent last season and got a good year out of him as he rushed for 905 yards. But he also missed a month with a knee injury and that likely contributed to the Chargers moving on this offseason, signing Najee Harris in free agency before drafting Omarion Hampton in the first round.

The Broncos will likely put Dobbins through a strenuous physical and if he passes that and likes the fit, it will likely lead to a contract offer. But that is the main hurdle as Dobbins has suffered a torn ACL, torn Achilles tendon and an MCL sprain in his first five NFL seasons.

But he could help the Broncos create the kind of committee Sean Payton is known for. Along with Harvey, Audric Estime and Jaleel McLaughlin, Dobbins could slide in seamlessly and be part of a rotation rather than the guy expected to carry the ball 15-20 times a game.

He's no longer that player but in Denver, he wouldn't need to be. It will be interesting to see how this materializes.
