Cowboys' Micah Parsons gets NFL record-shattering $196 million contract update image

The Dallas Cowboys and Micah Parsons aren’t exactly on the same page right now—and they don’t seem close to it. The tension stems from Jerry Jones’ long-standing habit of trying to negotiate handshake deals rather than working through agents.

“The fact that Jerry Jones and the Cowboys believe they can negotiate a 9-figure extension with Micah Parsons without involving his agent says everything about the current state of the franchise. This entire situation is laughable from the Dallas side. It could’ve — and should’ve — been avoided. But instead, the Cowboys’ operated with pure arrogance, foolishness and stubbornness,” NFL insider Jordan Schultz posted.

After all this unfolded, Parsons became unhappy with the organization and requested a trade.

“Still I stayed quiet but again after repeated shots at myself and all the narratives I have made a tough decision I no longer want to play for the Dallas Cowboys. My trade request has been submitted to Stephen Jones personally,” Parsons posted.

Teammate Dak Prescott believes Parsons will continue playing for the Cowboys.

“No. Not necessarily,” Prescott said. “I think if I wouldn’t have been in his shoes, and watched other guys be in his shoes and get rewarded, maybe. But I’ve got faith in the Joneses and the team, as I do in Micah and his team. Eleven is a Cowboy.”

ESPN’s Bill Barnwell said no matter which team Parsons ends up with, he will secure an NFL record-shattering deal.

“The most likely contract is a four-year deal for $172 million, with a record average salary of $43 million per season. With Parsons' $24 million salary for 2025 already guaranteed, that would come out to five years and $196 million, for an average of just over $39 million per year,” Barnwell wrote.

No matter what happens, Parsons will land with a team that fully values him and respects his wishes. When that contract comes, however, remains uncertain. Parsons is about to set a new timeline for edge rusher market value. Jones needs to tighten up and realize no other NFL team would hesitate to make a move.
