The Baltimore Ravens made a surprising move this offseason by moving on from future Hall of Fame kicker Justin Tucker.

After a tough season and with the NFL investigating allegations against Tucker, the franchise decided it was time for a change. What made that decision easier was that the team had already invested a 2025 sixth-round pick in his replacement.

That replacement is Tyler Loop, the former Arizona Wildcats kicker the Ravens selected at No. 186 in the recent draft.

In the first week of training camp, Loop made an immediate impression — drilling a 68-yard field goal and going a perfect 10-for-10 last Friday. He wrapped up the week by hitting all 23 of his attempts.

As the competition with John Hoyland heats up, Loop is emerging as the favorite for the job.

"With Tyler [Loop], the thing we understand is when we brought him in, and we looked at him, the dude has a strong leg,” Chris Horton, Ravens Special Teams Coordinator said. “Technically, he's sound. He kicks the ball the way we want to kick the ball, and he's been consistent. That's what we're looking for.”

Loop has big expectations to meet, but his college career shows he can handle the pressure.

He finished at Arizona with the best field goal percentage in program history at 83.7%, including a career-long 62-yard kick. He also set single-game records with five field goals made against Texas Tech.

Loop’s strong leg and calm approach have quickly caught the Ravens’ attention and showing the consistency and confidence a team looks for at kicker.

If he continues on this path, Baltimore may have found their long-term solution.
