Revenge might be a dish best served cold, but Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders is bringing in all the heat in Cleveland.
After falling to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL draft in humiliating fashion, Sanders seems adamant on coming out on top of the Browns QB battle.
Looking at the recent updates from OTAs, Sanders has already overtaken veterans Joe Flacco and the more experienced QB Kenny Pickett.
ESPN Cleveland reported Sanders recorded three touchdowns and completed seven of his nine passes during the team drills.
Gabriel was equally impressive with two touchdowns and 11 completed passes of 16 total.
The veterans fell behind the rookies here, as Flacco put up one touchdown and completed nine passes out of 16, whereas Pickett had zero touchdowns with 11/16 completed passes.
"Anyone's guess is as good as mine when it comes to the Browns quarterback situation. The other dynamic at play in regards to Sanders is the presence of fellow rookie Gabriel, who was actually the first of the two rookies drafted. It would not be a surprise if either started Week 1 over veterans Kenny Pickett, Joe Flacco, but it would also not be a surprise if three quarterbacks or more started for Cleveland this season," CBS Sports predicted earlier this week.
Having said that, it will hardly come as a surprise if Kevin Stefanski deploys all four QBs to start in the early games to gauge their real-time capabilities.
This means big news for both rookies, but especially Sanders, as it gives him the story to plot his comeback.
"Whether it's a following that he's earned, I mean, that's something that he's done a great job of, interacting with fans. But he is a great, great kid. You guys will get to know him. He's working like crazy just like all the guys," Stefanski had said earlier of Sanders.
Now that Sanders has earned this edge, it'll be interesting to see how he leverages it if it comes to that.
