The Seattle Seahawks are in the middle of a soft reset, having swapped out Geno Smith and DK Metcalf for Sam Darnold and Cooper Kupp.
Seattle did well to save some money around the margins and attempt to be a fringe NFC playoff contender.
The team's long-term direction is unclear, but drafting Alabama Crimson Tide football product Jalen Milroe in the third round suggests management could earmark the 22-year-old as the future face of the franchise.
Milroe never seemed to manage to reach that elite echelon of Crimson Tide offensive weapons, under Nick Saban and Tommy Rees or Kalen DeBoer and Nick Sheridan, yet one former league signal-caller is optimistic about his potential as a pro.
During a recent exclusive for Bleacher Report, former journeyman backup and current content creator Kurt Benkert was bullish on Milroe's situation in Seattle.
"Jalen Milroe is going to be a better NFL quarterback than he will have been in college," Benkert said. "The way the game is moving suits him a little bit better, and he's got guys around him that will be able to elevate his gameplay. He might sit for two years behind Sam Darnold, but if you give him a chance to learn and develop the NFL game with all of the natural athleticism that he brings to the table, he can be a problem in the league."
Milroe physically looks the part, but considering he is coming off a shaky campaign with schematic guru DeBoer as his head coach, which casts some doubt on Benkert's analysis.
He has to make sizeable strides as a pocket passer, especially throwing with anticipation. If Milroe can be at least average in those areas, his freakish combination of size and speed can help turn him into a viable threat under center.
