Former Arsenal defender admits Tottenham as better destination for Premier League star image

Arsenal have been extremely active in the summer transfer window as they have added reinforcements all over the pitch to compete with top teams for the Premier League crown heading into the new season.

The Gunners have made a horde of signings improving the roster on all fronts from attack to defense.

However, the North London outfit are still pushing for another signing before the transfer window closes in a couple of weeks.

Mikel Arteta wants the club to sign Crystal Palace star player Eberechi Eze, who is reportedly considered as an upgrade over Martin Odegaard while he can also slot in on the left flank with aplomb.

Eze has been in sensational form for Palace from last season as he scored the winner against Man City which guided the Eagles to the FA Cup title and will allow them to feature in Europe this season.

Interestingly, apart from Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur are also in race to sign the England international as Thomas Frank is a big fan of the attacking midfielder and now with James Maddison injured, Eze could be a great fit at Spurs.

Former Arsenal defender Lee Dixon also shared his verdict on Eze moving on from Palace and he believes Spurs could be a better destination for the 27-year-old keeping next year's World Cup in mind.

"It's always better to have too many top players than not enough, it’s a nice problem for any manager to have. We've seen over the last few years that we've just fallen short a little bit in the important parts of the season. Having a player like Eze in your squad might be able to change that a little bit, having someone who is a bit unpredictable and can produce moments of inspiration," Dixon told 10bet quoted via GOAL

"It only takes a couple of flashes of genius, and that turns games that Arsenal drew last season into wins. He’s definitely a player that gives you something different to what you have. For Arsenal, it’s about how you improve because finishing second three years on the trot has people questioning your quality. We’re very, very close to being able to win the Premier League title, and maybe Eze could offer that little bit extra that pushes you over the line or gives you an extra five or six points come the end of the season. "

Dixon understands that Tottenham lack the squad depth something that Arsenal already possesses hence he believes that Eze moving to Spurs will be beneficial for the player in terms of getting more gametime.

"There’s obviously only one choice! But, from his point of view, he probably knows that he’ll have a better chance of playing every week at Tottenham than he would at Arsenal simply because Arsenal’s squad is better," Dixon explained.

"At Arsenal, he may have to accept more of a squad role. He's another one that has the ability to play in multiple areas, and that is what he would have to do at Arsenal. I could see him operating off the left, off the right and centrally, but Arsenal have quality players that can play in those areas and he’d be competing with them to get in the team. He’d back himself to get in the team. With the amount of games Arsenal will play, he’d play a lot of football, but he wouldn’t start every week. There’s definitely a place for him at Arsenal, that’s for sure."

Spurs boss Thomas Frank open to more signings this summer

Tottenham are in the market to make more signings this summer mainly due to Dejan Kulusevski and Maddison's long-term injuries heading into a massive season after a disastrous 2024/25 campaign.

Therefore, the Lilywhites are showing interest in Eze and Savinho to strengthen their options in attack.

Ahead of the Premier League opener against Burnley, Frank was asked if Spurs are looking to sign any more players this summer, he told the media, "We are looking of course in the market.

“Not only for 10 position but just to see if we can strengthen the squad. The players we are looking [at] are only players we think can improve the squad. That's the right thing we want to do. If we can pick the right player and it fits, then we will do something."

Therefore, it remains to be seen where Eze eventually ends up or rather he decides to continue his time at Palace especially after Oliver Glasner guided the Eagles to the FA Community Shield triumph over Liverpool.

Wherever he moves, he won't be a cheap option as Crystal Palace ask in excess of £60m ($81.3m) for their main man in midfield.

Eze featured in 43 games last season for Palace across competition, returning with 15 goals and 11 assists. Apart from his numbers, it is his influence that has often made been the gamechanger for the Eagles.
