India staged a memorable comeback in the recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy as they picked up a dramatic win at the Oval in the fifth and final Test and drew the series 2-2.

It was a momentous turnaround for the Indian side, as at one point England were cruising towards victory in the final match of the series, with Harry Brook and Joe Root scoring a century each in the second innings.

However, it was Mohammed Siraj's heroics on the final day as he claimed a fifer and cleaned up the English tail to guide India to a memorable victory at the Oval.

The series, which was formerly called the Pataudi Trophy, named after former India captains Iftikhar Ali Khan Pataudi and Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi, was rechristened and the new name Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy was assigned ahead of the 2025 edition of the series.

The decision to change the name faced considerable amount of backlash, and later, at Tendulkar's request, the Board of Control for Cricket in India got involved, along with the International Cricket Council chair, Jay Shah, to ensure that the Pataudi legacy was retained for the series.

Sunil Gavaskar questions Tendulkar & Anderson's absence in presentation ceremony after IND vs ENG Test series

However, despite the series being named after the two icons of India and English cricket, none of the players were spotted during the presentation ceremony after the conclusion of the fifth Test and it caught the eye of another India legend, Sunil Gavaskar.

In his column for Sporstar, Gavaskar wrote: "This was the first-ever series named after Sachin Tendulkar and Jimmy Anderson, two of cricket’s greatest legends. One would have expected both to be present to give the trophy to the two captains, especially since the series ended in a draw. To the best of one’s knowledge, both were in England at the time.

"So, were they simply not invited? Or was this similar to what happened in Australia earlier this year, when only Allan Border was asked to present the Border-Gavaskar Trophy because Australia had won the series? Since this England series was drawn, perhaps neither was asked to attend the presentation."

While the two stars missed the conclusion of the series, they were present in London ahead of the tour to unveil the new trophy.
