Storm star to miss third straight game with 'unfortunate' injury image

Ryan Papenhuyzen will miss a third consecutive NRL match as he manages an injury.

On Tuesday, the Storm confirmed that their star fullback is still recovering from a minor calf strain.

He has not been named in their Round 20 squad to face the Sea Eagles as the club takes a cautious approach to his recovery.

"I've been dealing with a little bit of a calf strain, which is a little bit annoying," Papenhuyzen told 2GB's Wide World of Sports radio.

"But we are in a good position (for me) to be able to rest and get it right before the back end of the year."

Papenhuyzen has a rough history with injuries.

The 27-year-old spent 14 months away from the game following a fractured patella suffered in 2022.

He then suffered an ankle injury upon his return, spending another significant stint on the sidelines.

Since putting the No. 1 jersey back on, Papenhuyzen has enjoyed some pleasing form, including scoring 12 tries in 14 appearances in 2025.

However, he admits that his calf strain will "probably" need to be managed until the end of the season.

"Like any injury or niggle, you have to manage (it). I'm still managing my knee and ankle (injuries) from years ago.

"You just have to make sure you are putting your attention in the right places with your rehab.

"It will be something that we will focus on to make sure it doesn't flare up through the year. I can't fault what we've been doing so far process-wise.

"It is just one of those unfortunate things to happen."

Nick Meaney will continue as Papenhuyzen's replacement at fullback for Melbourne when they host Manly on Saturday night.
