Ryan Papenhuyzen will sit out yet another week for the Melbourne Storm, with the club confirming the fullback is still recovering from a minor calf strain.
The 26-year-old hasn’t featured since picking up the niggle and was again left out of the squad for Saturday’s Round 20 clash against Manly at AAMI Park. While the setback isn’t believed to be serious, the Storm’s medical staff are taking a no-risk approach as they eye a finals push.
“The Club’s medical staff are continuing to take a cautious approach, with the hope that he will be available for Round 21,” Melbourne said in a team statement.

Nick Meaney steps up in Papenhuyzen's absence
With Papenhuyzen sidelined, Nick Meaney will continue at fullback for a third straight week, and it’ll be a milestone occasion for him.
The dependable utility is set to notch his 150th NRL appearance, having already tallied 670 points in 84 games since joining the Storm in 2022.
Melbourne are otherwise boosted by the return of Xavier Coates following Origin duties, and Craig Bellamy has named a strong side to take on the Sea Eagles, featuring Cameron Munster, Harry Grant, and the in-form Eliesa Katoa.
But Papenhuyzen’s lingering absence will keep fans watching the team sheet closely as the business end of the season draws near.
