Gus Gould rejects 'rubbish' Toby Sexton exit report image

Bulldogs boss Phil Gould has labelled a report that Toby Sexton is on his way out of the club as "rubbish".

According to The Daily Telegraph, the halfback will depart Belmore when his contract expires at the end of 2025.

It comes amid news that star playmaker Lachlan Galvin is likely joining the side in the coming weeks.

Galvin's arrival could push Sexton out of the halves, which is a key reason behind his potential exit.

Gould, however, plans to "ignore" reports regarding the 24-year-old's future.

He took aim at Sexton's manager, Tas Bartlett, claiming it's all part of a push to encourage the Bulldogs to extend the in-form halfback's contract.

"Just firstly on the articles regarding Toby Sexton, I haven't seen them but I'll guarantee you it's the same journalist that's written all the other ones in the last 12 months, who happens to be a friend of the manager who's agitating for Toby Sexton to get re-signed," Gould said on 100% Footy.

"I ignore all that rubbish, and I'm ignoring this rubbish."

Gould explained that he has been transparent with Sexton amid the Galvin developments.

The Bulldogs supremo also declared that the club is not in contract discussions with their current No. 7.

"I met with Toby Sexton a number of times in the last month, talking about his football and where he stood contract-wise. I didn't want it to be playing on his mind. It's an important decision for us, and it's an important decision for Toby," he said.

"We spoke again on Friday, and I admitted to him on Friday that the previous day I'd had some discussions with Lachlan Galvin, so we keep our players well informed – we're honest with them.

"Toby's very happy in what he's doing at the moment. We're not in any contract discussions with Toby at the moment – his manager keeps pushing for it, and we keep saying no, we're on another mission."
