In what might go down as the most bizarre moment of the 2025 NRL season, Ryan Papenhuyzen was placed in the sin bin after Melbourne challenged a penalty call in Friday's clash with South Sydney, only to reveal that their star fullback had committed a professional foul himself.
On a recent episode of the 167 podcast, Papenhuyzen and his Storm teammates weighed in on the controversy and discussed who made the call to get the bunker involved.
"Everyone’s thinking I challenged it," said Papenhuyzen.

In the days following the viral moment, fans have been left to speculate about what exactly occurred in those on-field discussions between Storm leaders.
Melbourne outside back Grant Anderson revealed how the situation went down from his vantage point.
"Mun[ster] came from the other side of the field; 'challenge, challenge," he said.
"Then you [Papenhuyzen] shrugged your shoulders and you were like; 'Oh I don’t know."

Despite Anderson's confidence, it still seemed unlikely to the 25-year-old that a simple shrug of the shoulders would trigger a captain's challenge and his teammate being marched off.
"I figured it out," said Anderson.
"Mun[ster] wanted to wind back the clock and play fullback, so he was like let’s challenge,"
"[Tyran Wishart] was keen to go because Wishy does a little bit of fullback here and there and apparently he [Munster] goes; ‘Nah Wishy, I’ll go."
Papenhuyzen continued to pile on the Maroons five-eight, adding that he's heard similar complaints about Munster.
"Well apparently, like I’m hearing this as well, Munster comes over to the ref before any of it and says, ‘you reckon if we challenge he’ll [Papenhuyzen] get sin binned?" he said.
"The ref said 'yes' and he said 'challenge'."
In yet another instance of on-field mischief, which fans have come to expect from Munster, Papenhuyzen's sin bin is one that will be remembered as one of the most unconventional challenges in rugby league history.
