Newcastle face a daunting task for the remainder of the campaign after their talisman Kalyn Ponga went down injured just before the State of Origin decider.

The Knights are without their captain, Fletcher Sharpe and Dylan Lucas for the rest of the season and they are now in the midst of a six-game losing streak as the wooden spoon looms large.

Adam O'Brien will be desperate to snap the losing streak when his side welcomes Brisbane to the Hunter.

Knights latest team news:

Newcastle are riding a six-game losing streak and look in trouble as they inch closer to the wooden spoon.

Connor Votano was handed a debut at fullback and despite a tough afternoon during his side's loss to North Queensland, he keeps hold of the No.1 jersey.

Jake Arthur and Jack Cogger partnered in the halves for the second match in a row and have been listed to start again.

Phoenix Crossland was absent against the Cowboys due to a head knock, yet the New Zealand international returns this week.

Crossland's return has pushed Jayden Brailey out of the starting side and Matthew Arthur off the bench.

Brodie Jones is also out of the side, with Elijah Salesa-Leaumoana the new addition on the pine.
