Cronulla had won four matches in a row, with their impressive victory over the Dolphins backed up by wins over the Sydney Roosters, South Sydney and North Queensland.

However, their unbeaten run came to a crushing halt last week as St George Illawarra upset them in the local derby.

Craig Fitzgibbon's side will be eager to avoid another banana skin when they host the Gold Coast this weekend. The last time these two sides met was in Round 23 last year when the Sharks romped to a 44-0 win on the Glitter Strip.

Sharks latest team news:

Cronulla slipped to a disappointing loss to the Dragons in their local derby and to make matters worse, Jesse Ramien is injured, while Briton Nikora has been hit with a lengthy suspension for a high tackle.

Mawene Hiroti is the new face in the backline as he replaces Ramien, who suffered a broken thumb.

Billy Burns has been handed a place in the backrow in Nikora's absence, while Jesse Colquhoun has returned to the bench after missing last week due to suspension.

Braden Hamlin-Uele was promoted to the starting side after Oregon Kaufusi was ruled out due to a calf issue. Kaufusi's remains out, but it is Toby Rudolf who has been given the nod to start in this one.

Daniel Atkinson was shifted to 18th man late in the piece once again, but the utility has been named on the pine ahead of Hohepa Puru

KL Iro is nearing a return from a pectoral injury, but the centre isn't expected to be back for a few more weeks yet.
