The Eels have secured the future of one of their most promising young players, with Joash Papalii signing on until the end of 2027.

The 21-year-old has impressed with his versatility, playing multiple positions across the backline since making his NRL debut back in Round 12.

Papalii marked that debut with a try off the bench, and has since made five strong appearances in the top grade.

The Eels are confident he will be a key part of their long-term future under coach Jason Ryles.

"Joash is an exciting talent and someone the whole club genuinely loves having around," said general manager of football Mark O'Neill in a statement released on Friday.

"He brings energy, skill, and a team-first mentality that fits perfectly into what we’re building here at Parramatta.

"He’s continuing to develop his game under Jason Ryles and the coaching staff, and we’re really excited to see how far he can go in the years ahead."

The Eels believe his best football is still to come and many have tipped him to be the long-term answer at five-eighth once Dylan Brown makes way in 2026.

Papalii has been named on the extended bench for the Eels in Round 19 and will likely feature for their NSW Cup team who take on the Panthers earlier on Sunday.
