Alyssa Thomas has forced herself into the WNBA MVP conversation.
Yeah, it's early, and sure, Thomas isn't the scoring powerhouse that some of the other contenders might be.
But the Phoenix Mercury superstar is one of the most well-rounded players in the league.
She showed it on Thursday night in a surprise win over the Liberty. And in the victory, Thomas put up a stat line never before seen in the WNBA.
The final stats for Thomas:
- 18 points
- 6-10 FG, 6-9 FT
- 15 rebounds (9 defensive, 6 offensive)
- 7 assists
- 2 steals
She's the first player in WNBA history to have 18-15-7-2 on 60% or better shooting, per the Mercury.
On the season, the 33-year old Thomas is averaging 14 points, seven rebounds and nine assists per game.
She's one of the most gifted, high-IQ hoopers in the entire WNBA.
Phoenix is a new spot for her after spending her entire WNBA career before this season with the Connecticut Sun.
But so far, so good for Thomas. She continues to play like one of the best players on the planet, which is exactly what she is.
