WNBA living legend Diana Taurasi announced her retirement from the league in February 2025. To be honest, there would never have been a good time for Taurasi to retire; she's so good and has done so much to build the league that fans love today, and her presence will be missed throughout this season and for many to come.

Taurasi spoke about retirement and what she's been up to since (spoiler: being present for her family has been a huge blessing) in an interview with The Athletic's "No Offseason" podcast that was published this week. She also made a surprising admission about the Phoenix Mercury, the team she played for throughout her career.
When asked if she saw the team's opening game this season, Taurasi admitted she didn't — but hastily noted the Mercury is "my team for life." She did catch up with the game after it aired and added that she's "really excited for this new team."
Taurasi also noted that "all the records will be broken" now that the WNBA is adding new teams and more games to each season. Sataou Sabally, who signed with the Mercury ahead of this season, had 27 points in her debut with the team — and managed to best Taurasi's own record of 22.
