What is WNBA Camp Day? Why Fever, Valkyries, more play early on Wednesday, July 9

Wednesday’s schedule — like Tuesday's before it and Thursday's after it — looks a little different from the usual slate of games.

Whereas matchups typically take place in the evening, the first three bouts of Wednesday’s slate — Storm vs. SunValkyries vs. Fever, and Lynx vs. Mercury — will kick off at 11 a.m. ET, 12 p.m. ET, and 3:30 p.m. ET, respectively. On Tuesday, the Sky and Mystics tipped off in the early afternoon, and on Thursday, the Lynx and Sparks will get underway at noon local time.

The reason? The league has taken great steps to embrace the fleeting joy of youth as of late, offering up its concourses to various summer camps.

These “Camp Days” offer campers reduced prices to attend contests, with organizations hoping to coax attendance from local camps across a franchise's respective community.

Last season’s iteration of “Camp Day” saw 10 sides, including the Sun and Liberty, joust beneath the gleaming midsummer sun. Prices remained low despite the nature of the matchups, bringing children in droves.

Expect a similar sight this time around.
