The Indiana Fever are running out of room for error. A team that once sat firmly in the playoff mix has slipped to seventh in the standings, and the absence of Caitlin Clark continues to loom over everything. With the regular season winding down, Indiana is desperate for wins just to stay in the postseason picture.
Fever sliding at the wrong time
Clark has not played since injuring her groin in mid-July against Connecticut. That's who they will face on Sunday, as they are in desperate need of a win, taking on the 6-26 Sun.
Clark still on the sidelines
It was her third setback of the year, and it has already forced her to miss 19 of the team’s 32 games. Before the injury, she was putting up 16.5 points, 8.8 assists, and 5 rebounds per game, numbers that made her the centerpiece of the Fever’s offense.

There was some optimism this past week as she returned to limited on-court work, running the length of the floor and doing light drills. But she has yet to be cleared for full practice, and there’s no official timetable for her return. For a franchise built around her star power, that uncertainty makes every game feel heavier.
A roster under pressure
The Fever have also been hit with other backcourt injuries, losing both Sydney Colson and Aari McDonald for the season. That forced the team to bring in veteran Odyssey Sims on a hardship deal just to fill out the rotation. Despite those challenges, Indiana has managed to stay competitive, even pulling off a dominant win over Chicago recently.
But without Clark, the margin is razor-thin. The Fever were built to contend with her running the show. Now, they’re simply trying to hold on. Seventh place keeps them alive, but it also leaves little breathing room. Until Clark returns, Indiana’s playoff hopes rest on a thin roster doing just enough to survive.
