Clovis North senior and 4-star BYU football signee McKay Madsen has been named Gatorade's California Track & Field Athlete of the Year after repeating as state champion for both shot put (69-11) and discus (211-6.5).
Madsen was the first California high school athlete to accomplish the feat since Clarence Houser of Oxnard went back-to-back in both events 102 years ago.

The future Cougar running back (and possibly linebacker) then went to Nike Outdoor Nationals, where he placed second in shot put and fourth in discus.
The Gatorade.com post included the following quote from Rich Gonzalez, editor of PrepCalTrack.com: "McKay Madsen finishes his prep career as the most consistent discus thrower and best combination shot-discus talent in Golden State history. He’s also one of only five preps in national history to have amassed personal bests of 69-11 and 211 or better in those respective events. He’s truly a king of the ring."
In the fall, Madsen led Clovis North to a league title in the TRAC, one of California's toughest football conferences, with 1,238 yards and 19 touchdowns rushing, 49 tackles, and four interceptions.
