A Shreveport (Louisiana) high school quarterback left one program on Wednesday and has apparently joined forces with another crosstown school.

David Amos, a junior who was projected to be the starting quarterback at Captain Shreve, left the Gators. According to a report in the Shreveport-Bossier City Advocate, Amos will plan to enroll at another Shreveport school, Calvary Baptist Academy.

But from looking at Amos’ X page, it seems to confirm his switch to the Cavaliers. His bio mentions CBA, and his cover photo includes the Cavaliers’ logo.

Amos (6-foot-1, 175 pounds) played in two varsity games last season at Captain Shreve and attempted two passes. Both were complete, with one going for a 56-yard TD in a game against Bossier City school Parkway.

The Advocate report also mentioned that Amos can possibly be eligible to play at CBA if he moves into its district. If not, it seems unlikely he will play this season, at least on the varsity level.

Calvary Baptist is breaking in a new starting QB this season following the graduation of Abram Wardell, who is now playing at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College. He helped lead the Cavaliers to a state title his junior season and finished his career at CBA with more than 9,600 yards passing with 120 TDs.

Should Amos not receive eligibility for the upcoming season, CBA is looking at either Matt Brinkman or Hudson Price to assume the starting duties behind center. Brinkman is a junior, and Price is a sophomore.

Ironically, CBA went through a similar situation two years ago, when a quarterback transferred from the Cavaliers. Peyton Houston, now a senior at Evangel Christian Academy, transferred from Calvary early in the 2023 season to go to Evangel. Houston played in the Cavaliers’ season-opener, but was backing up Wardell, before leaving the team several days later.

Last season with Evangel, Houston led the state in passing with 4,480 yards, including a national single-game record 817 yards. The opponent? None other than Captain Shreve, with Amos on the roster, although the Gators came away with a wild 77-76 overtime win.

Houston did get a measure of revenge by beating Captain Shreve, 58-48, in the opening round of the Division I Select playoffs.

The Gators were needing a new quarterback with the graduation of Brodie Savage. With Amos’ departure, a possible fallback option - according to the Advocate story - may be moving tailback Jamarcea Plater, who rushed for more than 2,000 yards, to quarterback

Calvary Baptist will kick off its season on Sept. 5 at Oak Grove.
