State high school softball tournament action continues Friday in Ohio with the awarding of another title trophy that night.
The Ohio High School Athletic Association state softball tournaments will have its third title game this week on Friday night with the Division V championship game. Wheelersburg will be vying for a perfect season against Baltimore Liberty Union at 8 p.m. ET at Akron’s historic Firestone Stadium.
Wheelersburg comes in at 27-0 after a 15-2 win against Oak Harbor in Thursday’s semifinals. Catie Boggs went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and four runs scored, and Kaylynn Carter was 2-for-4 with four RBIs, with both hitting home runs. Laken Wright also went 4-for-4 with three RBIs and two runs scored.
Baltimore Liberty Union also enters Friday’s title game with a gaudy record as well, bringing a 29-1 record. In Thursday’s semifinal, Liberty Union got past Akron Manchester, 4-2. Addie Osterman and Alexis McCoy each had two-hit games, and Emmalee Putnam drove in two runs.
Also on Thursday, two state titles were awarded. In the Division IV title game, Springfield Kenton Ridge finished off a 32-0 season with a 9-0 win against Hillsboro as Ivee Rastatter threw a five-hit shutout, striking out nine.
Then in the Division VII title game, Portsmouth Notre Dame bested Monroeville, 9-1. Kate Entler homered and drove in three runs for Notre Dame (26-3), and Maddie Entler had two hits with an RBI and two runs scored. Ava Rush gave up an unearned run on five hits while striking out nine.
Four more state titles will be awarded the remainder of the week: The Division III championship on Saturday and the Division VI, II and I title games on Sunday.
