Weekend rains forced the postponement - and eventual shift in sites - of the Arkansas Class 6A state baseball championship game.

As a result, the Arkansas Activities Association’s 6A title tilt between Fayetteville and Rogers has been moved to Sunday afternoon. The game is scheduled to be played at 2 p.m. at Heritage High School’s baseball complex in Rogers.

Behind the numbers of the longest Arkansas high school baseball state championship game ever played

Originally, the Fayetteville-Rogers game was scheduled for Saturday night at the University of Central Arkansas in Conway, which was hosting the AAA’s annual “Weekend of Champions” event in various sports. But heavy rain and storms in Conway on Saturday forced the game to be postponed.

Then, the AAA decided to move the game to Wednesday in Conway before the association and both schools elected to play instead on Sunday at Rogers Heritage.

Fayetteville enters the title game with an overall record of 26-6. In the 6A state quarterfinals, the Bulldogs defeated Bryant, 4-1; then rolled past Conway, 11-0, in the semifinals to earn the right to play for the championship.

As for Rogers, the Mounties come in at 26-4 overall. They are also riding a 20-game win streak, capped by a 9-2 win against Bentonville in the state quarterfinal and an 11-1 win against Springdale Har-Ber in the semifinals.

Both Fayetteville and Rogers are rivals in the 6A-West conference. The two teams played one another on consecutive days in March. On March 17, Rogers took a 5-2 win on its home field, but the following day, back at Fayetteville, the Bulldogs turned the tables with a 4-3 win.
