One of the nation’s top softball programs, Florida school Calvary Christian continues its postseason run against a crosstown foe.
The Warriors will be at home in Clearwater to take on Clearwater Central Catholic in the regional quarterfinal round of the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A playoffs on Wednesday evening. Calvary Christian is the top seed in the regional, with Clearwater Central Catholic the No. 8 seed.
Both teams faced off on April 1, with Calvary Christian claiming a 12-1 win.
Calvary Christian comes into Wednesday’s game at 25-1 overall, having won seven straight ballgames - the last two via shutout.
Senior Alexis Camilleri is the top hitter, batting .444 with 40 hits. Two other seniors, Julia Tamulski and Morgen Talley, lead the Warriors in slugging (.726) and RBIs (28), respectively. Talley also has hit seven home runs.
But Calvary Christian also has freshmen helping lead the way. Braylee Reno is the leader in on-base percentage (.533), while pitcher Morgan Spinner is tops in earned run average (0.61) and has a 6-1 record. Talley is 14-0 with a 0.73 ERA, striking out 172 batters in 96 innings.
Clearwater Central Catholic (10-12) brings its leading hitter in Alexis Rosado, who is batting .481 along with an on-base percentage of .541, and Kaelyn Foubister, who leads the Marauders in slugging (.717) and RBIs (18).
Wednesday’s winner advanced into the regional semifinals on May 13, facing the winner of the regional quarterfinal between No. 4 seed Tampa Catholic and No. 5 seed Cardinal Mooney.
