It's time for playoff baseball in California's high school ranks.

In this CIF-Southern Section Division 3 opener, Great Oak (12-16) hosts San Marino (21-6) in a battle between teams with a huge record disparity, but don't let that fool you – this should be an evenly-matched battle.

Great Oak has played one of the harder schedules in all of California, mainly in non-league play – although sharing a league with Vista Murrieta will also make you battle-tested come postseason time. The Wolfpack lost eight games in a row after winning their season opener, but they are 11-8 since then, with the turnaround first marked by a finals appearance at Norco's tournament. They beat the nationally-ranked host team in the semifinals for the second time in a month before finishing top-three in the Southwestern League for a playoff spot.

San Marino has played a much easier schedule, but the 21-6 record speaks for itself. And the Rio Hondo League champion enters the postseason with a full head of steam having won five straight and eight of its last nine.
