The Houston Astros have had several top-tier players represent the organization, from Nolan Ryan to Jose Altuve. Houston was also home to one of the most dominant relievers in the game.
After becoming the latest member of the MLB Hall of Fame, Billy Wagner, the Astros’ all-time saves leader, will be honored on August 16 by having his No. 13 jersey retired at Daikin Park.
The Astros will face the Baltimore Orioles that day.
Wagner was selected in the first round of the 1993 MLB Draft by the Astros. He accumulated 225 of his 422 saves in Houston from 1995 to 2003. Not only was he a three-time All-Star for the Astros, but Wagner was also part of a no-hitter in 2003.

Following a run with the Astros, Wagner played for the Phillies, Mets, Red Sox, and Braves. He was elected to the Hall of Fame alongside Ichiro Suzuki and CC Sabathia, and is the third player to achieve baseball immortality while wearing an Astros cap.
“Everything began here for me,” Wagner said regarding why he chose to wear an Astros cap via MLB.com. “There’s a long winning history here. Really, it was pretty easy to say that. Most relievers bounce around a lot as I did, but to have nine years with those guys is pretty special.”
