Urawa Red Diamonds may be seen as one of the lightweights in this year’s FIFA Club World Cup, but they’ve managed to keep their gloves up in a tough group. However, their final clash sees them face a Monterrey side with big ambitions and even bigger momentum.

Few gave the Mexican outfit a puncher’s chance in a group featuring heavyweights like Inter Milan and River Plate, but Monterrey has thrown the script out the window. They drew first blood against Inter in their opener, and even though they had to settle for a draw, the result was a shot in the arm for their campaign.

In their second outing, Domenec Torrent’s men parked the bus and kept things tight in a gritty goalless draw with River Plate. It wasn’t one for the highlight reels, but the point gave them a solid platform heading into this decisive showdown.

As for Urawa, the wind’s been taken out of their sails. After coughing up a stoppage-time heartbreaker against Inter, they’ve been left with zero points and nothing but pride on the line. They did give the Serie A side a scare with an early opener, but two late strikes turned the tide and handed the Japanese side a second straight loss.

Now, with qualification within reach, Monterrey will look to put the hammer down and cruise into the last 16, while Urawa aim to save face and go down swinging.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

Urawa Red Diamonds vs. Monterrey predicted lineups, team news

Despite Urawa Red Diamonds suffering a gut-wrenching late collapse against Inter Milan, their rock-solid defensive effort for the bulk of the match might convince manager Maciej Skorża to roll the dice on a similar setup at the back.

Going forward, Ryoma Watanabe and Takuro Kaneko turned plenty of heads out wide — their slick link-up play led to the team’s lone goal, and both wingers are expected to get the nod again on Thursday as Urawa look to end their campaign on a high note.

Urawa Red Diamonds predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Nishikawa (GK) — Ishihara, Boza, Hoibraten, Naganuma — Yasui, Gustafson — Kaneko, Matsumoto, Watanabe — Matsuo.

Injured: None.
Suspended: None

Monterrey will be without midfield workhorse Jorge Rodriguez in their Group E finale, as back-to-back bookings have ruled him out of action. That opens the door for Nelson Deossa to slot into the engine room, likely lining up alongside the ever-reliable Oliver Torres.

Holding down the fort at the back, Sergio Ramos continues to be the heartbeat of the defense. The veteran center-back not only brings leadership in spades but also delivered Monterrey’s lone goal in the tournament so far — and he’s set to don the captain’s armband once again in this must-win showdown.

Monterrey predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Andrada (GK) — Aguirre, Medina, Ramos, Arteaga — Deossa, Torres — Corona, Canales, Ocampos — Berterame.

Injured: Jorge Rodriguez.
Suspended: None.
