How fast is Erling Haaland? Comparing Man City star's speed to top players around the world image

Erling Haaland's first season at Manchester City could not have gone much better for the Norway international, who boasts an incredible goal return.

Haaland's 36 Premier League goals broke the Golden Boot record jointly held by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer, as part of an incredible campaign in which the 22-year-old has netted 52 times for City in all competitions.

The former Borussia Dortmund striker has bullied and terrorised defences throughout 2022/23, mixing speed and ruthless finishing to devastating effect for Pep Guardiola's team.

Pace is a huge part of Haaland's game and The Sporting News looks at how he compares to the fastest Premier League and global stars this season.

How fast is Erling Haaland?

Haaland has been running defences ragged in recent months and based on Premier League data gathered by Squawka his top speed registered at 36.22km/h.

That puts him ahead of the vast majority of Premier League players over the last 12 months, but Haaland has not come out on top in the race of the speed kings.

Who is the Premier League's fastest player in 2022/23?

Haaland's impressive statistics have secured him a place in the Premier League's top 10 fastest players in 2022/23, but he only comes in at eight overall, with his City teammate Kyle Walker finishing on top.

Walker's reputation for recovery speed has been a key part of Guardiola's defensive strategy over the years and the 32-year-old claimed he always backs himself against Haaland in a training-ground sprint.

Fastest player in the world in 2022/23

Walker's 2022/23 top speed set a new Premier League benchmark, based on data collected from 2019/20 onwards, with Antonio Rudiger's 36.72km/h record at Chelsea broken by the England international.

However, he is edged out in the race to the fastest footballer in the world by Paris Saint-Germain talisman Kylian Mbappe.

Walker was tasked with marking Mbappe in England 's 2-1 World Cup quarterfinal defeat to France at the end of 2022, and despite keeping Mbappe relatively quiet, the Frenchman's top speed in 2022/23 has been flagged at 37.98km/h.
