England kicked off 2023 by successfully defending their Arnold Clark Cup title on the back of the Lionesses' incredible Euro 2022 success last summer.

Sarina Wiegman's side have enjoyed an incredible 12 months, moving up to fourth in FIFA's world rankings, and they are unbeaten in competitive action for two years.

The return of the Arnold Clark Cup offered Wiegman's squad a chance to carry on their positive momentum ahead of the 2023 FIFA Women's World Cup in July – and they took it by winning all three of their games.

Alongside acting as tournament hosts, England were strong favourites and signed off by thrashing Belgium 6-1 at Bristol City's Ashton Gate Stadium.

2023 Arnold Clark Cup teams and schedule

The Arnold Clark Cup includes three invited teams, alongside hosts England, with new entrants selected each year.

The tournament runs between February 16 and 22, with each team playing the other three sides once, in a mini group stage format.

All matches involve 90 minutes of action, with no extra time or penalties, as the tournament winner is decided by the team at the top of the table at the end of the competition - based on points, goal difference and goals scored, as the ranking criteria.

What is the Arnold Clark Cup?

The Arnold Clark Cup was created by the English FA to include another semi-competitive tournament in the annual calendar to act as a buffer zone between major international tournaments including European Championships and World Cups.

The first edition, in 2022, was won by England, who finished ahead of Spain Canada and Germany in the four-team competition.
