Chelsea have been dealt a fresh injury blow as key defender Levi Colwill has picked up an injury ahead of the start of the new Premier League season.
Colwill was an integral part of Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca’s squad as he made over 40 appearances in all competitions last season.
But it looks as though he could miss out on the start of the upcoming season as the Blues kick off their new campaign against Crystal Palace on 17 August.
Colwill’s injury comes as a huge blow to Chelsea, as he was eagerly looking forward to the new season and had warned his teammates that everyone would be looking to beat them since they won the Club World Cup.
What’s more worrying for Chelsea fans is that Maresca did not have an answer when asked about the defender’s potential return.
Additionally, Maresca will have to figure out a replacement for Colwill ahead of Chelsea’s opening Premier League fixture of the season.

What Maresca said about Levi Colwill’s injury
Maresca spoke to the media ahead of Chelsea’s two upcoming friendlies against Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan and briefed them about Colwill’s injury.

“We had a problem the last two days with Levi Colwill. We don’t know how long he’s going to be out, so for us we’ll see. Hopefully, not too long, but for sure it’s a problem for us.”
From a Chelsea perspective, fans would be hoping that Colwill’s injury is nothing serious and that he will be back in action as soon as possible.
